Introduction (5 minutes)
Begin by engaging students with a question: "Can you find all the lowercase letters?" Show sets of capital and lowercase letters mixed together. Emphasize that each letter has two forms, uppercase and lowercase.
Explicit Instruction/Teacher modeling (10 minutes)
Learn with an Example: Display mixed sets of uppercase and lowercase letters. Reinforce the key idea: "Each letter in the alphabet can be uppercase or lowercase." Point out the sets of uppercase and lowercase letters, emphasizing the distinction. Present the solution: "The lowercase letter is h. The letters W and K are uppercase."
Guided Practice (5 minutes)
Distribute the Guided Practice Worksheet: Match Lowercase Letters. Allow students to work in pairs or small groups to circle the lowercase letters on the worksheet. Use large letter cards to assist and guide their identification.
Independent Practice (10 minutes)
Distribute the Independent Practice Worksheet: Match Lowercase Letters. Instruct students to independently circle the lowercase letters. Monitor and assess for misconceptions and intervention issues.
Provide one-on-one support for students facing difficulties in matching lowercase letters. Offer additional practice materials for continued learning.
