Students will identify and recognize the same two words by understanding that words consist of letters in the same order.

Introduction (5 minutes)

Begin with a question: "Can you pick out the two words that are the same?" Display a set of three to four words to introduce the concept.

Explicit Instruction/Teacher modeling (10 minutes)

Learn with an Example: Present a set of words (e.g., bell, net, bell). Pose the question: "Which two words are the same?" Emphasize the key idea: "A word is made up of letters, and a word always has the same letters in the same order." Provide examples: "Bed and red are different because the letters are not all the same. Rod and nod are different because the letters are not in the same order." Highlight the solution: "The two words in bold have the same letters in the same order. They are the same word."

Guided Practice (5 minutes)

Distribute the Guided Practice Worksheet: Find the Same Two Words. Students work in pairs or groups to circle the words that are the same.

Independent Practice (10 minutes)

Distribute the Independent Practice Worksheet: Find the Same Two Words. Students independently circle the words that are the same. Monitor for misconceptions and intervention needs.

Assess student understanding through observations during guided and independent practice, as well as through the exit ticket.

Review and closing (5 minutes)
